Name: Helen Jane Campbell
    Role: CMM2, Labour Ward
Place of Practice: University Hospital Galway

Midwifery is shaped not only by evidence, but by the values and commitment of those who practise it every day. In this Member Spotlight, Helen shares reflections from decades in labour ward practice and what continues to inspire her work.

Helen’s journey into midwifery began during her maternity placement as a student nurse, an experience that sparked a lifelong dedication to supporting women through birth. Today, she remains deeply passionate about preserving normality within an increasingly clinically driven maternity care environment.

One moment that continues to stay with her is witnessing the instant a woman becomes a mother and recognising her own strength, determination, and achievement during birth.

For Helen, being part of AIMN means knowing there is a community of like-minded midwives advocating for women and babies, grounded in evidence and shared values. On challenging days, it is her years of experience and enduring love for the profession that keep her going.

Her advice to midwives and students is simple yet powerful: “Go and experience midwifery in other parts of the world.”
