We are pleased to feature Taiye Uyinmwen, whose journey into midwifery reflects resilience, global experience, and a deep passion for caring for women.
Originally trained in Nigeria as a Nurse, Midwife, and Family Planning Provider, Taiye’s inspiration began early through a relative who worked as a traditional birth attendant. Witnessing the growing need for healthcare in her community motivated her to pursue formal training in nursing and midwifery, where she developed the skills and knowledge to support women through pregnancy and birth.
During her time in practice, she recalls a particularly challenging labour where she was called to assist in a community setting with limited resources. Through quick thinking and clinical judgement, she was able to stabilise the woman and support a safe delivery, an experience that strengthened her confidence and reinforced her commitment to midwifery care.
Taiye’s journey has since taken her across different countries, including the UK and Spain, where she has navigated challenges in registration and adapting to new healthcare systems. Despite these barriers, she has remained dedicated to her profession, working as a healthcare assistant, volunteering, and maintaining her clinical skills whenever possible. She is currently pursuing an MSc in Nursing at the University of Lancashire, continuing her commitment to professional growth.
Her passion lies deeply in midwifery, the field where her journey began. She is particularly dedicated to supporting women throughout pregnancy, labour, and the postnatal period by providing education, reassurance, and space for women to express their concerns. From promoting healthy pregnancy practices to preparing women for labour and encouraging breastfeeding and bonding, her focus remains on empowering women through knowledge and compassionate care.
On challenging days, it is her passion that keeps her going, constant reminder of why she chose this path.
Her advice to midwives and students is simple yet powerful: “Stay focused.”
